Operational Travel Advisory

Structured Alpine Access Documentation

These advisories are not weather summaries.

They are structured operational documents designed to support routing decisions, internal coordination and clear communication with guests travelling through alpine regions.

Each advisory provides a standardized operational overview including:

  • Location and affected route
  • Official road authority confirmation
  • AI EVACS operational risk assessment
  • Environmental outlook
  • Defined operational position
  • Timestamp and reference ID
  • Next scheduled reassessment

The advisory format remains consistent across all passes and escalation levels.

Scenario I

Access Currently Possible — Elevated Monitoring

Location: St. Moritz Region
Affected Route: Bernina Pass (2,328 m)
Official Road Status: OPEN
Risk Level: Medium → High (Trending Up)

Contributing Factors

Increasing snowfall intensity
Wind exposure approaching operational thresholds
Visibility expected to reduce later in the day
Temperature drop forecast at altitude

Operational Outlook

While the pass remains open, late-day arrivals may encounter deteriorating stability conditions.

Operational Position

Active monitoring required.
Early routing is preferable.
Reassessment scheduled within defined interval.

Scenario II

Conditional Access – High Volatility

Location: St. Moritz Region
Affected Route: Bernina Pass (2,328 m)
Official Road Status: OPEN
Risk Level: High (Trending Up)

Contributing Factors

Rapid snowfall accumulation

Wind gusts exceeding ridge-level thresholds

Reduced visibility at pass altitude

Pattern similarity to historical pre-closure events

Operational Outlook

Environmental indicators suggest elevated probability of disruption within hours.

A short window of safer passage may remain before conditions deteriorate further.

Operational Position

Early departures recommended.

Avoid non-essential travel beyond the defined time window.

Scheduled reassessment prior to expected instability peak.

Scenario III

Restricted Access – Controlled Conditions

Location: St. Moritz Region
Affected Route: Abula Pass (2,312 m)
Official Road Status: CHAINS REQUIRED
Risk Level: Medium

Contributing Factors

Snow accumulation at pass level
Crosswinds at ridge sections
Surface compaction and ice formation
Sensitivity to further snowfall

Operational Outlook

The pass remains open but under controlled winter conditions.

Further snowfall may increase operational restrictions.

Operational Position

Routing possible with appropriate winter equipment.

Avoid late evening travel.

Monitor scheduled advisory updates.

Scenario IV

Access Unavailable – Confirmed Closure

Location: St. Moritz Region
Affected Route: Bernina Pass (2,328 m)
Official Road Status: CLOSED
Risk Level: High

Contributing Factors

Intensifying snowfall

Wind exposure exceeding operational thresholds

Severely reduced visibility

Operational Outlook

Even if temporary reopening occurs, conditions remain unstable due to ongoing deterioration at altitude.

Operational Position

Guest routing via the affected route is not possible.

Alternative routing required.

Postponement of departure may be necessary until further notice.
